INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER (CONTRACT POSITION)

Main Purpose of the Job: To plan, manage, advise, coordinate and facilitate development of interactive eLearning/blended materials by consultancy on course design and delivery, training, evaluation and intervention, research and advocacy. Provide consultation in pedagogy, instructional design, and online course development and delivery to University academic staff; Provide guidance in the development of processes and procedures for involving course creation and evaluation of the instructional effectiveness of course material. Provide expertise in the effectiveness of managing the Moodle learning management system.

Duties:(i) Conduct consultation sessions in design, development and delivery of online courses (ii) Consults with academic staff to guide them to effectively use eLearning platforms/technology. (iii) Development of processes and procedures for involving course materials that are produced by the academic staff. (iv) Collaborate with academic staff and eLearning team members to design and write storyboards, design documents, and develop eLearning courses as required. (v) Collaborate with eLearning team members to develop appropriate graphics, animations, artwork and photos to make instructional material optimally engaging; and select and/or develop appropriate instructional strategies using appropriate technologies. (vi) Train academic staff in applying instructional design and using appropriate instructional technology tools in delivering instruction and other related pedagogical issues. (vii) Provide pre and post-training consultations and support on course design and development. (viii) Responsible for planning and conducting regular needs assessments and satisfaction surveys and data analysis. (ix) Apply innovative approach to improve overall quality of courses/programs; (x) identify implementation challenges and work with faculty to ensure quality and consistency in terms of instructional design integrity; (xi) Explore and evaluate emerging technologies and techniques for their pedagogical/ and andragogical uses. (xii) Provide input and research best practices to elevate the quality and consistency of our online and blended learning initiatives.

Requirements: (i) A Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Systems Technology, Educational Technology or related. (ii) PhD in a related field will be an added advantage (iii) A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in relevant area, three (3) of which should have been experience working with or lecturing in instructional and educational technologies or related area in an institution of higher learning and/or relevant industry/organization. (iv) Experience in technology-supported instructional delivery. (v) Experience in working with eLearning technologies or web based learning would be highly essential. (vi) Experience in professional development training Knowledge of learning theories, instructional design theories, and instructional design models/systems.

SENIOR LECTURER IN COUNSELLING AND HUMAN SERVICES (2 YEAR CONTRACT)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Senior Lecturer in Counselling and Human Services. Department of Educational Foundations; Faculty of Education.

Duties: The successful candidate is expected to: (i) teach theory and practical in all aspects of counselling and participate in practicum and internship supervision and clinical supervision; (ii) provide academic leadership through enhancement of teaching, research, professional or community service; (iii) take an active part in the supervision and assessment of graduate students; (iv) participate in all academic and professional activities of the department including research and curriculum review; (v) carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements: Candidates should have (i) a Doctorate in any of the following areas: Counselling and Human Services/ Counselling/Guidance and Counselling/ Counsellor Education, School Counselling, Mental Health Counselling, Marriage and Family Counselling; Rehabilitation Counselling or related fields; (ii) evidence of professional affiliation; (iii) experience in Counselling and Human Services, practicum and internship; (iv) at least 3 years of relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (v) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 pieces of research products published by recognized publishers, 4 of which must be articles in refereed/ accredited journals in internationally recognised indexing databases. The remaining 2 publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings etc. published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (vi) Sustained research output; a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years; (vii) scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences; (viii) be lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles; (ix) publications should be spread nationally and /or internationally and across journals; (x) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 1 of these); (xi) recognised as being of at least national research standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/ accredited national and regional publishers; Editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; invitation as key note speaker at national and/or international conferences ( required in at least 1 of these); (xii) Evidence of governance and social engagement. The following will be added advantages: (i) sustained research activity: on going internally and/or externally supported research; (ii) research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate; (iii) examiner/moderator/assessor for undergraduate and/or postgraduate projects nationally; and (iv) effective and experience in running a programme/course, etc.

The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published work; clearly specifying titles of publications, ISBN numbers (for books, book chapters and conference proceedings), dates publications, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and number of pages. The works should be categorized into books, book chapters, refereed journals, non-refereed works and consultancies.

Subject to the provisions of General Regulations 40.0 and 41.0, the following Departmental Special Regulations shall apply:

Entrance Requirements for MEd Programme in Educational Technology

The normal minimum entrance requirements for admission to the MEd programme shall be:

a) Any BEd degree from this or any recognised university or equivalent institution with at least a 2(ii) or its equivalent, or:

b) A Bachelor’s degree from this university with at least a second class, second division plus at least a credit in the concurrent Diploma in Education or pass in the Post 4844��Ѹ�� Diploma in Education. Equivalent qualifications from other recognised academic institutions shall be considered, or:

c) A Bachelor’s degree of this university at pass level with at least a credit in the Post 4844��Ѹ�� Diploma in Education;

With the approval of Senate, equivalent qualifications and experience may be accepted. Such candidates may be required to perform successfully on an admission examination or satisfy other requirements as deemed appropriate by the Department of Educational Technology.

Programme Structure

The structure of the Master of Education Degree in Educational Technology shall be in accordance with the Faculty Special Regulation 41.5

Student Advising

Upon admission, each student shall be assigned an advisor. The advisor shall consult with the student regarding course work and other issues related to the programme of study and may or may not serve as the Research Supervisor. During the first year, a Research Supervisor shall be appointed for each student.
