The candidate will deliver an agreed proportion (%) of the department’s full-time duties for a limited period of 6 months. The proportion (%) will be determined based on the average number of hours of work per week that the candidate will be available to carry out clinical duties and teaching. The candidate may still hold another post at a different institution while serving in the full-time equivalent post at the 4844��Ѹ��.

Duties: the successful applicant will: (i) teach undergraduate medical students and postgraduate residents; (ii) engage with the university, profession and community; (iii) provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals; and (iv) carry out any other duties as assigned by the Head of the Department.

Requirements: the successful applicant should: (i) have a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, MBChB, or MD degree) from a recognised institution; (ii) have a formal degree qualification as a specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery; (iii) be registered with or registrable by the Botswana Health Professions Council as a specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery; (iv) show evidence of engagement in research, including published journal articles, presenting scholarly work at seminars and conferences locally as well as internationally, participation in research teams and collaborative programmes, participation in reference committees and participation in peer review of manuscripts.

Added advantages: (i) experience of teaching at university or comparable institution; (ii) evidence of governance and social engagement.

Key Performance Areas

The successful appointees will be required to perform tasks necessary for the safe and complete delivery of the procedures outlined in the protocol to the highest standard. Amongst other responsibilities, the appointee will be required to:

Complete all data entry points as required by the study protocol and data management plan entering this data accurately into the electronic data collection database
Contribute to the resolution of any ensuing data queries in a timely manner
Provide regular updates on study progress.
Communicates with the Researchers for the data collection visit schedule; travels to designated locations to complete on-site data collection visit as scheduled.
Complete all data entry points as required by the study protocol and data management plan entering this data accurately into the electronic data collection database
Collects data as per protocol
Obtain study related samples (e.g., wound swab)
Provide constructive feedback in terms of logistics related to data collection.

Qualifications and experience

Diploma/certificate in a health-related subject

At least a minimum of 2 years’ post qualification experience working as a Research Assistant in a study involving patients (required)
Certificate in Good Clinical Practice
Previous work experience in clinical research setting

Competencies

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent time management
Strong presentation skills
Computer literate

Duration of contract :12 months
