Duties: the successful applicant will: (i) teach undergraduate medical students and postgraduate students; (ii) conduct research and/or creative professional works in his/her areas of expertise and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research projects; (iii) provide service to the university, profession and community; (iv) provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals, and; (v) carry out any other duties as assigned by the Head of the Department.

Requirements: (i) at least a Master of Medicine (MMed) or equivalent with a specialist qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology; (ii) a first degree in medicine (MBBS, MBChB, MD degree) or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution; (iii) the qualification must be registered with or registrable by the Botswana Health Professions Council; (iv) evidence of engagement in research, including published journal articles, presenting scholarly work at seminars and conferences locally as well as internationally, participation in research teams and collaborative programmes, participation in reference committees.

Subspecialty Training: the applicant must have an internationally recognised subspecialist qualification in Gynaecologic Oncology.

Added advantages: (i) experience of teaching at a university or comparable institution; (ii) evidence of governance and social engagement.

SENIOR LECTURER

Requirements: (i) at least a Masters of Medicine (MMed) or equivalent; (ii) a first degree in medicine (MBBS, MBChB MD degree) or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution; (iii) a specialist qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a minimum of 3 years of post-specialisation experience in professional practice in Obstetrics & Gynaecology; (iv) the qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (v) at least 3 years relevant teaching experience at a University or comparable institution; or 1 year of sustained mentorship/practice related training which would be considered as an alternative; (vi) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publication and experience in supervising students’ research projects; (vii) evidence of governance and social engagement; (viii) minimum of 6 pieces of research products published by recognised publishers, 3 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals indexed in internationally recognised indexing databases; (ix) be lead and /or last author in at least 2 of the refereed journal publications; (x) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (xi) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed in texts in other institutions etc.; (xii) recognised as being of at least national research or effective clinical professional standing; (xiii) sustained professional research output; a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years; (xiv) the curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of the publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. SENIOR LECTURER IN OBSTETRICS AND GYANECOLOGY

VACANCY No: FM/OBGY 1/2021

DUTIES: The successful candidates will teach undergraduates and graduate students, conduct research and provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals. Consideration for appointment will take into account relevant qualifications, teaching, clinical and research experience.

Requirements: The candidate must have: (i) a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or MBChB) or MD degree; (ii) a formal degree qualification as a specialist in Obstetrics and Gyanecology; (iii) the qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iv) evidence of professional specialization in Anatomic Pathology and evidence of active license to practice where appropriate; (v) minimum of 6 pieces of research products (Articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings) published by recognised publishers, 3 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognised indexing databases; (vi) paper/poster presentation at national and/or international conferences, depending on the discipline; (vii) be lead and /or last author in at least (2 of 3) refereed journal publications; (viii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (ix) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed in texts in other institutions etc (required in at least 1 of these); (x) recognized as being of at least national research or effective clinical professional standing (e.g reviewer for refereed/ accredited national and regional publishers, editorial board member of at least national publisher in a relevant field, invitation as keynote speaker at national and international conferences/symposia (required in at least 1 of these); (xi) active maintenance of a license to practice issued by a the relevant professional licensing authority; (xii) evidence of governance and social engagement; (xiii) sustained professional research output; a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publications every 2 years or 2 new CPW every 6 years or since last promotion shall constitute sustained research output; (xiv) paper/poster/creative professional presentation at national and/or regional conferences. The following will be added advantages: (i) sustained research activity, ongoing internally and externally- funded research activity; (ii) research/clinical effectiveness awards and other forms research recognition; (iii) examiner for undergraduate and /or postgraduate projects nationally.

Attributes and skills required: (i) Excellent communication and organizational skills; (ii) Strong academic leadership skills and sympathy for the values and culture of the University; (ii) Good management, human relations, sound analytical and coordinating skills.

Requirements: Applicants must: (i) have a Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS) or MD and formal qualification as an Obstetrician and Gynecologist; (ii) at least 8 years of teaching experience at a University or comparable institution; (iii) a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 24 publications, 12 of which should be refereed journal articles; lead and/or single author in at least 10 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (iv) evidence of service to University, the Profession and the Community; (v) evidence of effective academic leadership; (vi) Subspecialty experience or training in any of the following subspecialties will be an added advantage: Maternal fetal Medicine; Reproductive Health Medicine; Gynaecologic Oncology; Urogynaecology.
