VACANCY NO: IRC 2105

Duties: the successful applicant will: (i) teach undergraduate medical students and postgraduate students; (ii) conduct research and/or creative professional works in his/her areas of expertise and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research projects; (iii) provide service to the university, profession and community; (iv) provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals; and (v) carry out any other duties as assigned by the Head of the department.

Requirements: the successful applicant should have: (i) at least a Master of Medicine (MMed) or equivalent; (ii) a specialist qualification in Emergency Medicine; (iii) a first degree in medicine (MBBS, MBChB, MD) or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution; (iv) the qualification must be registered with or registrable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iv) evidence of engagement in research, including published journal articles, presenting scholarly work at seminars and conferences locally as well as internationally, participation in research teams and collaborative programmes, participation in reference committees and participation in peer review of manuscripts.

Added advantages: (i) experience of teaching at university or comparable institution, (ii) evidence of governance and social engagement.

The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of the publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorised into: books, book chapters, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, etc.

VACANCY NO: FM/EM 2/2020, SENIOR LECTURER OR LECTURER

Duties: The successful candidates will; (i) teach undergraduate medical students and postgraduate residents; (ii) conduct research in his/her areas of expertise and supervise medical students’ research projects; (iii) provide service to the university, profession and community; (iv) provide clinical care in affiliated hospitals; and (v) carry out any other duties as assigned by the head of the department.

Minimum Requirements:

Senior Lecturer: (i) at least a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery or other recognized Medical doctor qualification (MD); (ii) a specialist qualification in Emergency Medicine with a minimum of 3 years post-specialization experience in professional practice in Emergency Medicine; (iii) The qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iv) evidence of professional specialization in any field of medicine and evidence of active license to practice where appropriate; (v) 6 pieces of research products published by recognized publishers, 3 of which must be articles in refereed/ accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases; (iv) paper/poster presentation at national and/or international conferences, depending on the discipline; (vi) be lead and/ or last author in at least (2 of 3) refereed journal publications; (vii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (viii) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 1 of the these); (ix) recognized as being of at least national research or effective clinical professional standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers, Editorial board member of at least national publisher in a relevant field, invitation as keynote speaker at national and international conferences/symposia. (Required in at least 1 of these); (x) active maintenance of a license to practice issued by the relevant professional licensing authority; successful supervision/co-supervision of research projects/ Post-doctoral/clinical research fellow supervision; (xi) evidence of social engagement and governance; (xii) Sustained professional research output ; a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years or 2 new CPW every 6 years or since last promotion shall constitute sustained research output; (xiii) Paper/poster/creative professional presentation at national and/or regional conferences; (xiv) Successful supervision/co-supervision of research projects/post-doctoral/clinical research. The following will be added advantages: (i) sustained research activity; on-going internally and externally-funded research activity; (ii) research/clinical effectiveness awards and other forms research recognition; (iii) examiner for undergraduate and/ or postgraduate projects nationally.

Lecturer: (i) at least a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery or other recognized Medical doctor qualification (MD); (ii) a specialist qualification in Emergency Medicine; (iii) The qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iv) Evidence of governance and social engagement; (v) experience of teaching at a university or comparable institution will be an added advantage

VACANCY NO: FM/EM 1/2020, ASSISTANT PROGRAMME DIRECTOR (3 YEAR RESTRICTED-TERM CONTRACT)

RESTRICTED-TERM CONTRACT: Appointments to the advertised positions shall be shall be on restricted contract term of three (3) year, renewable on the basis of satisfactory performance.

Duties:The successful applicant should be able to; (i) Assist the Head of the Department (HOD) in implementing the education of undergraduate and postgraduate students and of medical interns, junior doctors and other members of the clinical care team in the clinical teaching facilities; (ii) Provide patient care and clinical and public health teaching and training in Emergency Medicine; (iii) Participates in relevant research; (iv) Work with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, health facilities (Ministry of Health) clinical staff, Head of Department and Hospital Superintendent to set priorities in education, research, service, recruitment and infrastructure enhancement; (v) Assist the HOD to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of academic programmes; (vi) Act for the HOD as may be required and any other duty as may be assigned by the HOD.

Requirements: Applicants should have; (i) at least; a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery or other recognized Medical doctor qualification (MD); (ii) a specialist qualification in Emergency Medicine with a minimum of 5 years of post-specialization experience in professional practice in Emergency Medicine. The qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iii) Must have been a lecturer (preferably Senior Lecturer) in the preceding 12 months prior to appointment (iii) At least 1 year of distinctive record of leadership and administration of university level institution.
