MPhil/PhD Degrees in Library and Information Studies

Preamble

Subject to the provisions of the Academic General Regulations 50.2 and Faculty of Humanities, the following Departmental Regulations shall apply. The degree is carried out through supervised research, but with required coursework that is deemed necessary by the Departmental Board.

Entrance Requirements

The normal minimum qualifications for entry into the PhD shall be a:

• An appropriate Master’s (MSc, MA, MEd, MPhil or equivalent)

Library and Information Studies

The Department of Library and Information Studies (DLIS) is where we continue to perceive information and knowledge management as a key resource and a competitive tool in national economic, social and political development.  The infusion of ICTs in virtually all the DLIS academic programmes has been acknowledged as a vehicle that would be utilized to produce graduates needed by national and international  labour market characterised by  diversity of information and knowledge management employment opportunities in business, industry and government.
