Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Mineral Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to (i) teach undergraduate courses in Mineral Engineering in more than one of the following areas: Physical Mineral Processes, Flotation, Extractive Metallurgy, Processing of Precious Metals, Diamond Processing Technology, Plant Process and Flowsheet Design, Process Control and Instrumentation, Tailings and Wastewater Disposal, Environment Management and Coal Preparation (ii) conduct and produce results of scholarly work, actively involving students at B. Eng. Degree level (iii) carry out any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements:

Lecturer: Applicants must have: (i) a PhD in Mineral Engineering, Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or equivalent (ii) a Masters’ Degrees in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering with a bachelor’s degree in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical (iii) be registered or eligible for registration with the Engineering Registration Board (ERB) (iv) evidence engagement in research (v) significant research output and mineral industry experience, evidence of governance and social engagement as well as teaching experience at a university or comparable institution will be added advantages.

N.B: In special circumstances a Masters’ Degrees in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering with a bachelor’s degree in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical of at least 2(i) or equivalent may be considered. Significant research output and mineral industry experience will be added advantage.

Senior Lecturer: Candidates should have: (i) a Ph.D in Mineral Engineering, Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline, (ii) a Masters’ Degrees in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering with a Bachelor’s degree in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical (iii) must be registered or eligible to be registered with a relevant engineering professional body; (iv) at least 3 years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (v) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 pieces of research products published by recognised publishers, 4 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognised indexing databases. The remaining 2 publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings etc published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (ix) sustained research output: a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years; (x) scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences; (xi) lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles; (xiii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (xiv) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 1 of the these); (xv) recognised as being of at least national research standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers; Editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; invitation as key note speaker at national and/or international conferences (required in at least 1 of the these) and (xvi) evidence of governance and social engagement; (xv) Registered/or be eligible to register with ERB as a Professional Engineer. Research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate will be an added advantage.

The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, ISBN numbers (for books, book chapters and conference proceedings), dates of publications, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and number of pages. The works should be categorized into books, book chapters, refereed journals, non-refereed works, consultancies and practical media projects.

Applications are invited for the position of Associate Professor/Professor of Project Management in the Department of Civil Engineering. The Department of Civil Engineering offers two graduate programmes in project management namely a Master of Science in Project Management (M. Sc. PM) and a PhD in Project Management. The Department is looking for a senior academic to complement its teaching team to develop and deliver the two programmes into reputable academic and professional qualifications in Botswana and beyond.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach M. Sc. PM courses; (ii) supervise research leading to a M. Sc. PM dissertation and a PhD thesis; (iii) initiate, promote and participate in research activities in project management; (iv) provide academic leadership and act as a mentor to junior academic staff; (vi) raise/ solicit research funds from funding agencies within and outside the country; (vii) develop collaborative relationships with other colleagues in academia and industry within and outside the country; (viii participate in all academic and professional activities of the department; and (ix) carry out any other academic and administrative responsibilities as and when assigned by the Head of Department.

An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of four (4) articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (vi) sustained research output: a minimum of two (2) peer reviewed publication every three(3) years; (vii) sustained research activity; ongoing externally supported research (e.g. funded or commissioned); (viii) regular scholarly paper/poster presentations at national and/or international conferences; (ix) be lead and/or single author in at least one-third (1/3) of the journal articles; There should also be some evidence of early career scholars/graduate students (x) publications should be spread internationally and across journals; (xi) recognisable research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc., (required in at least 2 of the these); (xii) recognized as being of at national but increasing becoming of international research standing (e.g. peer reviewing of new research proposals; reference in research committee; editor/guest editor/reviewer for refereed/accredited national and international publisher; editorial board member of an international publisher in a relevant field; invitations as keynote speaker at national and international conference, (required in at least 2 of the these); (xiii) research collaborations with other institutions or organisations (required); and research collaborations with cognitive disciplines in the Univeristy (required); (xiv); successful supervision of two (2) Masters or co-supervision of four (4) Masters students or supervision of one (1) PhD or co-supervision of two (2) PhD students; (xv) external examiner for Masters and/or PhD theses nationally and/or internationally (required); (xvi) registered or eligible for registration with Botswana Qualifications Authority as an Assessor/Moderator (xvii) evidence of governance and social engagement. Research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate will be an added advantage.

Professor Requirements: Candidates should have a (i) bachelor’s degree in Engineering and/or Built Environment obtained from a recognized university; (ii) a Master’s Degree in Project Management from a recognized university; (iii) a PhD in Project Management, or cognitive degree, from a recognized university; (iv) at least nine (9) years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (v) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least twenty four (24) pieces of research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc), published by recognized publishers. Twelve (12) of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases. The remaining twelve (12) publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings etc. published by recognized publishers. The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications: clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers, name(s) of co-authors if any and the page numbers. The publications should be categorized as: books, monographs, chapters in books, refereed and non-refereed journals, consultancies etc. The CV should also have a detailed list of courses taught and the levels (undergraduate or graduate) for which they were taught.
