Duties: The Department of Psychology is looking for an innovative psychologist to: (i) teach Undergraduate and post graduate Psychology courses; (ii) initiate, promote and participate in research; (iii) supervise student research projects (iv) supervise practicum and internship students and (v)carry out any other responsibilities as and when assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements: Applicants should have: (i) a Doctorate in Psychology (PhD/ PsyD) with specialisation in Clinical or Counselling Psychology; (ii) at least 3 years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iii) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 pieces of research products published by recognised publishers, 4 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognised indexing databases. The remaining 2 publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings etc published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (v) sustained research output: a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years; (vi) scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences; (vii) lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles; (viii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (x) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 1 of the these); (xi) recognised as being of at least national research standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers; Editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; invitation as key note speaker at national and/or international conferences (required in at least 1 of the these) and (xii) evidence of governance and social engagement; must be registered or registerable with the Botswana Health Professions council.

CLINIC COORDINATOR/ LECTURER – FIXED TERM CONTRACT (12 MONTHS)

VACANCY NO: FSS/ PSY1/2023

Duties: The successful applicant will be expected to: i) coordinate all clinic activities including : a) Staffing, b) Case management (including records and archives), c) Supervision of interns and practicum students, d) Provide training to interns, e) initiate, promote and participate in outreach activities, f) Ensure that policies and procedures of the clinic are strictly adhered to by students, interns, and staff, g) Provide counselling at the Clinic, h) Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders; i)Provide service to the community through the psychology clinic; j)Teach psychology courses; k) conduct research in his/her area of expertise; and l) Participate in any other activities as assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements: Prospective candidates i) must possess a PhD/PsyD in Clinical or Counselling Psychology from a recognised university or institution with accredited Psychology programs, ii) an undergraduate degree in Psychology from a recognised institution with at least a 2(i) or a GPA of 3.6 and above; iii) must have completed a postgraduate-level internship of at least one year, iv) show evidence of engagement in research; v) must be registered or registerable with the Botswana Health Professions council. The following will be added advantages: experience of running a psychology clinic; teaching experience at a university or comparable institution and demonstration of effective academic leadership.

NB: Under special circumstances, a Master’s Degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology may be considered.
