FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH/SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH

VACANCY NO: IRC 2600

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach undergraduate and post-graduate courses in Environmental Health, Food Hygiene and Safety, Food Technology and Meat Hygiene (ii) take an active part in the supervision and assessment of undergraduate and post-graduate students research projects; (iii) serve in committees within the University and external professional organisations, iv) attract funding and grants

Requirements: (i) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Environmental Health or Public Health; (ii) Master’s Degree in Food Safety, Food Quality Management, and Food Technology; (iii) Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Health with at least 2.1 pass or equivalent; (iv) have expertise in food inspection and understanding of legislation on food hygiene and technology; (v) evidence of engagement in research; (vi) teaching experience at a University or comparable institution, Governance and Social Engagement will be added advantages.

NB: Applicants holding a Master’s Degree but registered for a PhD may be considered.

AUDIOLOGY TECHNICIAN (CONTRACT POSITION)

VACANCY NO: FHS/SPH01/2023

The Main purpose of the job: To assist with the audiological evaluation of clients under School of Public Health, Faculty of Health Sciences.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) Perform audiological evaluations for the Audiologist, interpret and assist with testing, (ii) Perform audiological work for hearing aid programs such as registering clients for appointments, taking ear mold impressions, performing minor repairs to hearing instruments, completing paperwork for hearing instruments, ordering, repairing and replenishing supplies used for testing, (iii) Clean equipment and sterilizes instruments used for evaluations, (iv) Perform administrative duties for the department such as recording statistics, receiving and answering daily correspondence, (v) Purge hearing aid records (vi) preparing clients for testing, (vii) Prepare administrative promotional activities., viii) Support teaching and research and ix) Perform any other duties as may be required by the Department or the School.

Requirements: i) A Diploma in Communications Disorders or similar with skills in audiology equipment and techniques, communication and computers, ii) Candidates having Bachelor’s degree in communication disorders/Audiology or equivalent will be preferred, iii) Candidates must be registered with Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC), iv) Candidates with industrial experience will have an added advantage

SENIOR LECTURER IN PUBLIC HEALTH AND HEALTH INFORMATICS, (contract position)

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Public Health and Health Informatics; (ii) demonstrate leadership in teaching, research and community service, including the long-range planning and management of individuals and multidisciplinary teams, (iii) take an active part in the supervision and assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research projects, (iv) raise research funds from funding agencies within and outside the University; (v) facilitate partnerships internally and externally, (vi) serve in committees within the University and external professional organizations, (vii) Curriculum Development in public health will be an added advantage (viii)carrying out any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of Department/School.

Requirements: Candidates should have (i) Doctor of Philosophy in Public/Environmental Health (ii) Master of Public /Environmental Health (iii) a post graduate training in Health/ Medical Informatics ; (iv) at least 3 years of teaching experience at a comparable University or institution; (v) a good and sustained record of research and publications outputs with at least 6 pieces of research products, 4 of which should be articles in refereed or accredited journals in internationally recognised indexing. The remaining 2 publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc, published by recognised publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (vi) sustained research output: a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years; (v) scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences; (vi) be lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles; (vii) publication should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (viii) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 1 of these); (ix) recognized as being of at least national research standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers; (x) editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; (xi) invitation as key note speaker at national and/or international conferences (required in at least 1 of these); (xii) evidence of governance and social engagement. The following will be added advantages: (i) evidence of effective academic leadership; (ii) multi-disciplinary experience in teaching, research, administration or consultancy work; (iii) evidence of developing new programmes in public health; (iv) sustained research activity; (v) ongoing internationally supported research; (vi) research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate; (vii) examiner/moderator/assessor for undergraduate and/or postgraduate projects nationally and effective experience in running a programme/course etc.

The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, ISBN numbers (for books, book chapters and conference proceedings), dates of publications, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and number of pages. The works should be categorized into books, book chapters, refereed journals, non-refereed works, consultancies and practical media projects.
