Duties:

The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) Coordinate, lead and provide guidance in the implementation of pharmacy curriculum; (ii) Rationalize the sourcing and procurement of the equipment and instruments to be used in the programme: (iii) Teach graduate and undergraduate pharmacy courses; (iv) Provide academic leadership in teaching, research and service; (v) Mentor junior staff in teaching and research; (vi) Supervise and mentor learners; (vii) Make independent contribution to pharmacy teaching and to the profession; (viii) Promote internal and external partnerships to facilitate collaboration with other departments, faculties within and outside the 4844��Ѹ�� and with other external stakeholders such as Ministry of Tertiary Education Research Science and Technology, Ministry of Health and Wellness, private sector, professional bodies and relevant communities; (ix) Provide guidance on the strategic framework of the Department of Pharmacy; (x) Contribute to institutional policy development and governance; (xi) Undertake administration/coordination activities at the institution.

Requirements:

Senior Lecturer: Candidates should have: (i) at least a Master’s degree in pharmacy or related field; (ii) a Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or related field with at least a second class, first division (2.1) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 or equivalent; (iii) at least 3 years of teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iv) have a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 publications, 4 of which should be refereed journal articles reflecting a spread of national regional and international journals and/or publishing outlets; (v) lead and/or single author in at least 2refereed journal articles or book chapters; (vi) evidence of engagement in service; (vii) Be registrable with the Botswana Health Professions Council. A relevant PhD will be added advantage

Associate Professor: Candidates must have: (i) at least a Masters degree in pharmacy or related field; (ii) Bachelors Degree in pharmacy or related field; (iii) at least 5 years of teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iv) have a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 12 publications, 8 of which should be refereed journal articles reflecting a spread of national regional and international journals and/or publishing outlets; (v) lead and/or single authored in at least 6 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (vi) evidence of service to the University, the Profession and the Community; (vii) evidence of effective academic leadership; (vii) Be registrable with the Botswana Health Professions Council. A relevant PhD will be added advantage

Professor: Candidates must have: (i) at least a Masters Degree in pharmacy or related field; (ii) Bachelors Degree in pharmacy or related field; (iii) at least 8 years of teaching experience in a University or comparable institution; (iv) a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 24 publications, 12 of which should be refereed journal articles reflecting a spread of national regional and international journals and/or publishing outlets; (v) lead and/or single author in at least 10 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (vi) evidence of service to the University, the Profession and the Community; (vii) evidence of effective academic leadership (vii) Be registrable with the Botswana Health Professions Council. A relevant PhD will be added advantage

For all the above positions, the curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications: clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers, name(s) of co-authors if any, and number of pages. The publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, chapters in books, refereed and non-refereed journals, consultancies etc. The CV should also have a detailed list of courses taught and the levels for which they were taught.

REF: NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH INSTITUTE DEVELOPMENT IN BOTSWANA PROJECT

Background:

A research and development consultant is required to conduct an assessment of national public health research and development capacity. The purpose of this assessment is to examine Ministry of Health and Wellness and its key partners’ current capacity to conduct national and district-level research, and the extent of translation of research to policy, so that gaps can be identified and addressed to ultimately enhance evidence-based policy and effective planning. The consultancy will be conducted via field assessment of research capacities and capabilities within MoHW central and five district facilities as well as identified key stakeholders. Institutional research capacity, including partnership and collaboration, between research organizations and MoHW will be examined as part of the consultancy. The consultant will produce a consolidated report of the findings and recommendations, and debriefing with DHMTs.

Duties:

The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) Lead stakeholder analysis exercise to identify potential partners for public health research, (ii) Facilitate pre-assessment stakeholder briefing workshop to ensure active involvement of key stakeholders, (iii) Develop data collection tools, (iv) Conduct and manage data collection activities, including key informant interviews and field assessments (at least 5 districts), (v) Manage and maintain quality database, (vi) Participate in a stakeholder workshop to share findings, gain stakeholder inputs and develop action plan to address gaps, (vii) Prepare report and out-brief on assessment findings and recommendations based on findings, (viii) Prepare stakeholder workshop proceedings report to reflect assessment findings and draft action plan working with MoHW

Requirements:

A PhD in Public Health field with two years post-qualification research or, MSc degree (or equivalent) in Public Health field with five years’ post-qualification research experience
Familiarity with current research and development best practices in the region
Experience working in public health landscape in sub-Saharan Africa
Evidence of having published in peer-reviewed journals.

The consultancy will involve in-country travel visiting selected sites.

Reporting:

The Consultant will report to 4844��Ѹ�� PI and Ministry of Health and Wellness Department of Clinical Services.

The Faculty is organized under three schools and our academic programmes are embedded in three main themes: undergraduate and graduate teaching, research and service to our professions, the University and the community. We are responsive to the community and we offer academic programmes that are relevant, compliant with national policies, marketable and address health challenges affecting Batswana, the region and the world.

In line with the University’s aspiration to become a research intensive university by 2021, research is high on the agenda of all schools. In an attempt to realize that goal, we have productive collaborations in research with internal and external institutions for building human resources capacity for health research in critical areas like HIV and AIDS, non-communicable diseases, adolescent health, environmental pollution and its health effects.
