The Penn Global Rehabilitation Programme wishes to invite suitable applicants for the position of Research Assistant. We seek outstanding dynamic, self-motivated & qualified individuals:

Position Description:

The Penn Global Rehabilitation (PGR) programme is a collaborative initiative between the 4844��Ѹ�� and the University of Pennsylvania. The programme consists of two core components: (i) a residency rotation where University of Pennsylvania Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residents are exposed to Botswana’s rehabilitation landscape through participation in interdisciplinary patient care and teaching at various hospitals in Gaborone, Mahalapye, and Maun, and (ii) a service & research initiative aimed at improving access to affordable, quality prosthetic devices and services for Batswana living with lower limb amputations.

Key Performance Areas:

Assisting with participant recruitment, pre-screening, and consenting
Data cleaning, data management, and data entry on Redcap
Assisting with the design of the database on Redcap.
Coordinating all PGR activities
Engaging with participants on the prosthetics care group

Core Competencies and Skills:

High level of integrity and respect for confidentiality in handling information.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including patient engagement.
Ability to draft research manuscripts
Attention to detail, particularly in data entry, data quality and record management.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable working with databases and online tools.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in a health, social science, or a related field.
Experience working in a clinical, rehabilitation, or research setting.

Added Advantage:

Experience working with people with physical disabilities or limb loss.
Familiarity with the research process and use of REDCap.
Ability to organize seminars and other meetings.

MANAGER – GRANTS (2-YEAR CONTRACT)

Duties: the successful candidate will be expected to: i) provide senior-level oversight of grants management of various internally and externally funded consultancies, projects and studies undertaken in the Faculty of Medicine; ii) coordinate and support grant implementation processes, throughout the grants life cycle, as required; iii) supervise research office administrative support staff; and iv) provide compliance-oriented, grants management guidance to department level support staff involved with grant implementation.

This post will report to the Deputy Dean, Research and 4844��Ѹ�� Studies, Faculty of Medicine, 4844��Ѹ��.

Specific Responsibilities: i) ensure that there is compliance to funding agency rules and regulations; ii) demonstrate understanding of funding agency rules in the management of funded projects; iii) prepare and/or review budgets for proposed or existing projects; iv) contribute to and lead in grant preparation (especially budget and budget justification); v) predict expenditure and provide principal investigator(s) with forecasts; vi) monitor grant budget spending to ensure appropriate spend rate; vii) prepare reports as required by funding agencies and internal stakeholders; viii) facilitate and participate in required funding agency reporting; ix) prioritise work based on deadlines, including working with sub-awardees (if 4844��Ѹ�� is prime) or Prime (if 4844��Ѹ�� is a sub-awardee); x) supervise and mentor research office support staff; xi) carry out other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements: i) first degree in Finance or equivalent; ii) at least 5 years experience coordinating business processes of research, including pre-award and post-award, and engagement with funders and other stakeholders; iii) at least 2 years experience as a supervisor.

Duties: the successful candidate is expected to: (i) Enter the reported positive cases in the REDCap recruitment tracker and recruited patients in the REDCap database (ii) Work with the laboratory manager to review and sort out cases using REDCap. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

We seek experienced, assertive, results driven leader with keen interest in research to join a growing research team for the position of a 4844��Ѹ�� Coordinator.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The incumbent will be expected to work with the study’s Principal Investigators (PIs) to plan, supervise, and oversee the day-to-day clinical activities in accordance with applicable research standards and standard operating procedures.

The successful appointee will be required to coordinate the implementation of operational aspects of the study, including general administration, data management, regulatory administration, safety, budgets and contracts. Amongst other responsibilities, the post holder will be required to:

Maintain study standards according to the guidelines of the Institution, the Institutional Review Boards at Botswana Health Research Unit and other governing agencies.
Play a key role in the development of required study documentation for regulatory bodies, stakeholders and participants.
Contribute to the delivery of training sessions across the study sites.
Assist with the design, coordination, implementation, and assessment of data Quality Assurance, working with the P.I.s and Data Management Assistant on issues related to data completeness and quality.
Provide oversight and leadership to the study team, with support from the study PIs, to ensure that data quality management plan is adhered to, and data quality is assured.
Assist the PI with generation of study related reports and data as needed.
Act as a liaison between PIs, Co-Investigators, and Botswana Ministry of Health, to ensure that the study is conducted according to the approved protocol and that key stakeholders remain apprised of study achievements and challenges.
Supervise and manage the performance of study staff, including providing daily performance feedback, and the timely preparation and administration of mid and end of year performance appraisals.
Facilitate capacity building for 4844��Ѹ�� staff through one-on-one training and provide opportunities for staff to participate in various conferences and training applicable to the study.

Ensure that study accrual and retention targets are achieved.

Prepare bi-monthly reports outlining actual versus targets, with narrative as to planned recruiting and retention strategies.
Ensure that participant lost-to-follow up is minimized and prepare a monthly report for lost to follow-up and a narrative of actions that will be taken to minimize further losses.
Provide adverse events report for sponsors and governing agencies in accordance with the study’s protocol.
Deliver educational talks to prospective participants about the study, as well as perform duties such as recruiting, consenting, completion of visit case report forms using the Electronic Database Capture system and follow-up of all study participants.
Participate in study sites monitoring activities as required by the sponsor and regulatory agencies.
Any other duties commensurate with the post as requested by the PIs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent must hold a Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent with a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in research activities. They must have a solid understanding of HIV Clinical Management.
Evidence of Good Clinical Practice or equivalent training.
She/ he must be detail-oriented and can perform in a leadership capacity, work independently, think critically, problem solve, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The suitable candidate should be versed in creating Excel spreadsheets with basic formulas, manipulating Word documents, creating PowerPoint presentations, and have excellent computer literacy.
Experience in similar role is an added advantage.

SENIOR LECTURER IN FAMILY MEDICINE (MAHALAPYE)- CONTRACT

VACANCY NO: FM/DFM/PHM 01/2022

Duties: the successful applicant will be expected to: (i) teach both undergraduate and graduate family medicine courses; (ii) conduct research in his/her areas of expertise and supervise medical students’ research projects; (iii) engage with the University, profession and community; (iv) provide clinical care in affiliated primary health care clinics and hospitals, and; (v) carry out any other duties as assigned by the Head of the department.

Requirements: (i) at least a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery or other recognised medical doctor qualification (MD); (ii) a specialist qualification in Family Medicine with a minimum of 3 years post-specialisation experience in professional practice in Family Medicine; (iii) the qualification must be registerable by the Botswana Health Professions Council with a specialist status; (iv) evidence of professional specialisation in Family Medicine and evidence of active license to practice where appropriate; (v) three years University teaching experience or equivalent or one year of sustained mentorship/practice related training as an alternative; (vi) minimum of 6 pieces of research products published by recognised publishers, 3 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals indexed in internationally recognised indexing databases; paper/poster presentation at national and regional conferences, depending on the discipline; (vii) be lead and /or last author in at least 2 of the refereed journal publications; (viii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (ix) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, professional effectiveness, publications that are prescribed in texts in other institutions etc.; (x) recognised as being of at least national research or effective clinical professional standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers, Editorial board member of at least national publisher in a relevant field, invitation as keynote speaker at national and international conferences/symposia; (xi) active maintenance of a license to practice issued by the relevant professional licensing authority; successful supervision/co-supervision of research projects/post-doctoral/clinical research fellow supervision; (xii) evidence of social engagement and governance; (xiii) sustained professional research output; a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years or 2 new creative professional works every 6 years or since last promotion shall constitute sustained research output; (xiv) the curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of the publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorised into: books, monographs, refereed journals, non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.

The following will be added advantages: (i) sustained research activity, on-going internally and externally-funded research activity; (ii) research/clinical effectiveness awards and other forms of research recognition; (iii) examiner for undergraduate and/or postgraduate projects nationally.
