This course introduces learners to IsiZulu as a tool for intercultural understanding and professional networking. The program focuses on the four core language skills which are listening, speaking, reading, and writing, through practical, everyday contexts. Learners will practice greetings, introductions, asking for directions, and basic conversational exchanges. The program addresses common pronunciation and usage challenges, building confidence in oral and written communication. In this course interactive exercises and cultural insights are used to create an engaging and authentic learning experience. The course emphasizes respect for linguistic diversity and promotes regional integration. By learning IsiZulu, participants embrace multilingualism as a competitive advantage in the global marketplace. This course empowers learners to communicate effectively across borders and cultures. Ultimately, it contributes to stronger regional cooperation and global interconnectedness.

PURPOSE

  • To have acquired and to demonstrate greater fluency in written and spoken IsiZulu in social situations.
  • To facilitate intercultural communication by applying knowledge, skills, and competence in Isizulu.
  • To have the ability to conduct basic conversations in Isizulu in familiar environments: making basic purchases at shops, using public transport, exchanging greetings, etc
  • To demonstrate the ability to speak and write about social situations, contemporary global issues and world culture in grammatically correct Isizulu.
  • To be competent in composing and writing some short passages in IsiZulu.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • To acquire competence in pronouncing IsiZulu sounds and basic words
  • To develop basic vocabulary to hold a conversation.
  • To acquire competence in constructing basic IsiZulu sentences. 
  • To acquire competence in asking simple questions and responding to simple questions
  • To acquire competence in giving simple directions.

TARGET POPULATION

  • Non-native speakers of IsiZulu

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • As a beginner’s course, the course is intended for anyone who has no prior knowledge of IsiZulu and is interested in understanding IsiZulu.
  • Basic literacy skills.
