The Faculty of Education invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education.
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: i) teach mathematics Education courses, ii) provide academic leadership through the enhancement of teaching, research, professional and community service; iii)Ìý take an active part in theÌý supervision and assessment of graduate and undergraduate students’ research projects; iv) carry out any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of Department.
Requirements
Lecturer: should possess: (i) a PhD in Mathematics Education or related field ; (ii) Master’s degree in Mathematics Education or related fields; (iii) a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics)Ìý plus PGDE B.Ed (Sciences) with specialization in Mathematics or B.Ed Primary (Mathematics Education) or related fields with at least 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 or equivalent;(iv) show evidence of engagement in research The following will be added advantages (i)Ìý evidenceÌý ofÌý GovernanceÌý andÌý SocialÌý Engagement;Ìý ii)Ìý teachingÌý experienceÌý atÌý aÌý UniversityÌý or comparable institution preferably in Mathematics Education.
N.B. Applicants with Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education or related fields with a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics)Ìý plus PGDE, B.Ed (Science) with specialization in Mathematics or B.Ed Primary (Mathematics Education) of at least 2(i) or equivalent may be considered.
Senior Lecturer: Candidates should have; (i) a PhD in Mathematics Education or related fields ; (ii) Master’s degree in Mathematics Education or related fields; iii) a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) Plus PGDE B.Ed (science) specializing in mathematics or B.Ed primary (Mathematics Education) or related fields;( iv) At least 3 years teaching experience at a university or comparable institution;( v) An excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 pieces of research products published by recognized publishers, 4 of which should be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexingÌý databases.Ìý TheÌý remainingÌý 2Ìý publicationsÌý couldÌý beÌý journalÌý articles,Ìý booksÌý chapters,Ìý peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc. published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in referred/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (vi) Sustained research output: a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years; (vii) Scholarly presentations at national and and/or international conferences;( viii) be leadÌý and/orÌý singleÌý authorÌý inÌý atÌý leastÌý 2Ìý referredÌý journalÌý articles;Ìý (ix)Ìý PublicationsÌý shouldÌý beÌý spread nationally and /or internationally and across journals; (x) Some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions, etc. (required in at least 1 of the these(xi) recognized as being of at least national research standing (eg reviewer of for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers); editorial boardÌý memberÌý ofÌý atÌý leastÌý aÌý nationalÌý publisherÌý inÌý aÌý relevantÌý field;Ìý invitationÌý keynoteÌý speakerÌý at national/andÌý orÌý internationalÌý conferencesÌý (requiredÌý inÌý atÌý leastÌý 1Ìý ofÌý theÌý these);Ìý (xii)Ìý EvidenceÌý of governance and social engagement activities. The following will be added advantages:( i) Sustained researchÌý activity;Ìý on-goingÌý internallyÌý supportedÌý research;Ìý (ii)Ìý ResearchÌý awardsÌý andÌý otherÌý formsÌý of research recognition, where appropriate; iii) Examiner/moderator/assessor for undergraduate and/or graduate; iv) effective and experience in running a programme/course, etc.
For Senior Lecturer position the curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications, clearly specifying titled publications date published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any publications should be categorized into books monographs and non-refereed journals, chapters in books etc.
