ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR\SENIOR LECTURER\LECTURER, DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGY (Structural and metamorphic Geology) (Contract Position)

VACANCY NO: IRC 1079 - ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER (STRUCTURAL AND METAMORPHIC GEOLOGY) (Contract Position)

Duties:ÌýThe successful candidate will be expected to (i) teach undergraduate and graduate level courses; (ii) the candidate should be able to teach at least three of the following: structural geology, tectonics, metamorphic geology, field and general geology; (iii) the successful candidate must also be able to take an active part in the supervision and assessment of undergraduate and graduate research work and (iv) carry out any other responsibilities assigned by the Head of the Department.

Requirements:Ìý

The requirements for appointment at each rank are as follows:

Associate Professor

Candidates should possess; (i)Ìýa Doctorate in structural geology and metamorphic geology or related discipline;Ìý(ii)Ìýat least SIXÌýyears of relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution;Ìý(iii)Ìýa minimum ofÌý12Ìýpieces of research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer-reviewed conference proceedings, etc.) published by recognized publishers. Eight (8) Ìýof these must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases. The remaining FOURÌýpublications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer-reviewed conference proceedings, etc. published by recognized publishers;Ìý(iv)ÌýAn academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 3 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality of standing;Ìý(v)Ìýsustained research output: a minimum of 3 peer reviewed publications every four years;Ìý(vi)ÌýSustained research activity: on-going externally supported research (e.g. funded/commissioned);Ìý(vii)Ìýpaper/poster presentations at international conferences at least once every two years;Ìý(viii)Ìýbe lead and/or single author in at least one-quarter of the required journal publications in structural/metamorphic Geology. There should also be evidence of mentorship of early career scholars/graduate students;Ìý(ix)Ìýpublications should be spread internationally and across journals;Ìý(x)Ìýsignificant research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 3 of the these);Ìý(xi)Ìýacknowledged by peers as being of national and international research standing (e.g. peer review of new research proposals; reference in research committees; editor/guest editor/reviewer of refereed/accredited national and international publishers; editorial board member of an international publisher in a relevant field; invitations as keynote speaker at national and international/symposia (required in at least 3 of the these);Ìý(xii)Ìýevidence of governance and social engagement;Ìý(xiii)Ìýresearch collaborations with other institutions or organizations;Ìý(xiv)Ìýresearch collaboration with cognate disciplines in the University;Ìý(xv)Ìýexternal examiner for Masters and/or PhD theses internationally.Ìý

The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications clearly specifying titles of publications, ISBN numbers, (for books, book chapters and conference proceedings), dates published, name of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any and number of pages. The work should be categorized into books, book chapters, refereed journals, non-refereed works, and consultancies.

Senior Lecturer

Candidates for this position should have:Ìý(i)Ìýa Doctoral Degree in Structural Geology and/or MetamorphicÌýPetrology;Ìý(ii)Ìýat leastÌý3Ìýyears of relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution;Ìý(iii)Ìýan excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at leastÌý6Ìýpieces of research products published by recognised publishers,Ìý4Ìýof which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognised indexing databases. The remainingÌý2Ìýpublications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer-reviewed conference proceedings etc, published by recognised publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher;Ìý(iv)Ìýsustained research output: a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years;Ìý(v)Ìýscholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences;Ìý(vi)Ìýbe lead and/or single author in at leastÌý2Ìýrefereed journal articles;Ìý(vii)Ìýpublications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals;Ìý(viii)Ìýsome research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 1 of the these);Ìý(ix)Ìýrecognised as being of at least national research standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers; Editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; invitation as key note speaker at national and/or international conferences (required in at least 1 of the these);Ìý(x)Ìýevidence of governance and social engagement.Ìý

The following will be added advantages:Ìý(i)Ìýsustained research activity: ongoing internally and/or externally supported research;Ìý(ii)Ìýresearch awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate;Ìý(iii)Ìýexaminer/ moderator/assessor for undergraduate and/or postgraduate projects nationally;Ìý(iv)Ìýeffective and experience in running a programme/course, etc., and;Ìý(v)Ìýextensive experience in mineral exploration and especially the mining industry.

Candidates should have:Ìý(i)ÌýThe minimum qualification for appointment to the rank of Lecturer shall normally be a Doctorate in Geology/Structural/Metamorphic Petrology from a recognised institution, or an appropriate professional qualification. In special circumstances, a relevant Master’s degree (plus at least 2.1 pass or equivalent at the Bachelor’s Degree level) may be considered. (ii)Ìýshow evidence of engagement in research. The following will be added advantages: (i) Evidence of governance and social engagement, (ii) teaching experience at a university or comparable institution.
